Capital City Fruit - Surprise Inspection Summary
Mar 3rd 2026
On February 19, 2026, Capital City Fruit received a surprise inspection from the Iowa Department of Inspections. The inspection covered our facility operations, including sanitation, food storage, equipment, warehousing, labeling, and recordkeeping.
We are very pleased to share that we were found in compliance in all major areas Inspection Report. The inspection confirmed that our processes, cleanliness, and overall facility standards are being maintained at a high level.
The only item noted was a small, non-critical issue related to temperature documentation for one cooler sensor. This is already being addressed and will be verified at the next inspection.
Most importantly, during the visit, the inspector, Brian Church, stated that “we have a really clean facility.” That comment reflects the pride and effort everyone puts into keeping our workplace clean, organized, and operating the right way every day.
We want to sincerely thank all of our employees for your hard work and attention to detail. Surprise inspections show how we operate on a normal day, and this result demonstrates your commitment to maintaining a safe, professional, and high-quality facility and produce.
We interviewed a couple people about the recent inspection, and this is what they said!
Brendan Comito (COO) - “One of our mottos is to be audit ready every day, and this is an example of what I mean. The inspector making the comment to us that Capital City is a clean facility really means something.”
Pavan Talatam (Lean Coordinator) - “Continue to follow the 3s; Sort, Shine, and Standardize. Maintaining your workstations is what makes us ready for these random checkups and helps us continue to follow LEAN as a company.”
